Nurture students' creativity providing them with a safe space for them to explore, experience and communicate truthfully. Maintain a balance between freedom and structure in the context of everyday experiences. Appreciate the unique contributions to society made by people from all economic, religious, racial and social backgrounds, as well as from those of differing physical ability. Provide a holistic learning environment based on a simple principle: Everything in the universe is connected, in some way, to everything else. Understand the cosmos is a whole, a unity, and a fantastically complex system of relationships.
Integrated Educational Environment
Teaching that recognizes the existence of multiple intelligences and makes every effort to approach learning through a variety of these modalities: visual-spatial, verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, interpersonal, musical-rhythmic, bodily kinesthetic, intrapersonal, and naturalist. Students are encouraged to explore and strengthen less dominant intelligences.
Yayasan MACK (Membina Api Cinta Kasih, or to cultivate the Fire of Compassion Foundation) established Sunrise School in 2000, as a small international community school based on the principles of holistic education and ‘living values'. The founders made the decision to use the British National Curriculum as the academic framework for the school. The school started with a pre-school through to Grade 5. Currently it has an enrollment of 95 students, with a playgroup 3 (for children 3 years old by October 31), playgroup 4 (for children 4 years old by October 31), kindergarten, three composite classes at primary school level (grades 1-2, 3-4 and 5) and a junior high school for grades 6-9. Its current (Preschool - 9) student body includes children from a wide range of religious, social and racial backgrounds (currently representing 18 nationalities).
Foundation Yayasan Membina Api Cinta Kasih (MACK) or to Cultivate the Fire of Compassion Foundation This non-profit organization based in Bali was founded in 1998 by a diverse group of individuals, concerned with finding solutions to environmental, social and educational problems and challenges. The organization’s primary focus is to contribute to the development of Indonesia through educational and environmental projects. According to the Articles of Association, the foundation is committed to: Provide educational programs, both formal and non-formal Research and develop projects in the field of education and environmental science. Establish children’s libraries Collaborate with other educational institutions in the field of teacher training, professional development, and resource development Publish educational materials
The foundation has adopted five basic life principles from the Credo of PGB, Bangau Putih, as it’s operational philosophy AWARENESS OF KNOWLEDGE Knowledge stems from the collaboration between nature’s reality and the awareness of human beings regarding that reality. This awareness, (or understanding) is consequently perfect only if it returns to the sources and foundations of nature.
RESPONSIBILITY Each of us is an inextricable part of society and its associated culture. Between individuals can be found a culture to which we are indebted and responsible. This culture functions as both bridge and mediator between knowledge, human beings and nature. Proper human conduct and education recognizes these bridges and the consequent human responsibility to nature and culture. HUMANITY
Benevolent and proper knowledge will not be destructive to society or culture. Any information that is destructive to humanity is unnatural and not valuable. Good knowledge must defend culture and humanity. COMPASSION We return knowledge to nature through our determination and action to defend humanity, defend culture, and cultivate the fires of compassion. Compassion is an important component of both nature and humanity, without which neither can survive. Without compassion, human interaction becomes deceitful, dishonest, dry and oppressive. RETURN Good knowledge strengthens the relations between human beings. Compassion engenders the energy required to serve nature and humanity effectively. Compassion brings humans closers to nature by fueling growth, healing and respect for life. Without compassion we are unable to return knowledge to nature. Currently the foundation is involved in the following programs:
- Sunrise School in Kerobokan
Community Outreach:
- Batungsel village
