Mind, Body & Spirit - Be Totally

Being a member of Sunrise School means being part of a very special community in which we consider our extended family. To develop responsible, caring, passionate, compassionate and confident adults, we offer a variety of programs and carry values throughout our school curriculum and beyond.

Activities are designed to provoke an awareness of values within and build inner resources. They are designed to empower and to elicit potential creativity and inner gifts. Students are asked to reflect, imagine, communicate, create, write about, artistically express and play with values. In the process, personal, social and emotional skills develop, as well as peaceful and cooperative social skills.

Mindful Mornings
Every Monday and Wednesday morning, classes take time to be quiet. We meditate together as a community for 15 minutes - it's a wonderful way to start the day! The session is led by different facilitators each week and the types of meditations vary. Parents are most welcome to join us.

Reflection Time
At the end of the week, the whole school gathers together to share something that they have learnt over the week. Parents are encouraged to come to this session. It is a wonderful way to see what each class has been doing and for students to feel proud in their work.
Peer Support
At Sunrise School we offer a peer support/buddy system to develop connections between students of different year levels and ages. Our program provides opportunities for our older students to provide role modeling and nurturing to our younger students, and provides opportunities for our younger students to connect with and feel nurtured by our older students.

Living Values and Holistic Health
Using a combination of the UN’s ‘Living Values’, ‘Mind-Up’, ‘Bravehearts’ and ‘Friendly Schools’ programs, we teach protective behaviours, promote life skills including personal and shared values, breadth of experience and understanding of difference, motivate students and involve them in thinking about themselves, others, the world and values in ways that are relevant and also how and why the body and mind work in the ways they do.

Yoga
All classes partake in one yoga lesson per week. Yoga helps us to improve balance, flexibility, fitness, relaxation, focus and self-discipline (to name but a few benefits).

Physical Exercise
All classes have PE twice per week in which they experience a variety of different sports, including swimming, team sports, athletics and cross-country.
